2 Wood

In order to stop deforestation you can also buy sustainable wood by purchasing FSC-certified forest products, (The Forest Stewardship Council)

Thus thanks to this panel, consumers, retailers, traders, and manufacturers help protect gorilla habitat by encouraging sustainable forestry and limiting illegal logging.

Without the FSC label, your timber may stem from illegal or controversial sources in central Africa. So observe carefully the logo on your product.

There is the meaning of each FSC label:

• FSC 100%: means that the entire product (each fiber and each part) comes from FSC certified forests.

• FSC Mixed: means that the product is made from a minimum of 70% wood fibers from FSC certified forests and 30% FSC Controlled Wood, which excludes 5 wood sources deemed unacceptable by FSC. FSC-certified products can also contain a fraction of recycled fiber.

• FSC Recycled: means that 100% of the product (each fiber and each part) is made from recycled materials (of which a minimum of 85% is post-consumer). This label is used mainly for paper products but can also be found on certain wood products.

3 Eat less meat

-Eat less meat because about 20% of the Amazon forest has been destroyed for breeding. You can also directly help the people who try to protect the apes like the associations for apes.

4 The orang-utan project:

For as little as €8 a month, you can help support an orphaned or injured orang-utan through rehabilitation in one of care centres.

More than 1,000 orphaned orang-utans are living in rescue and rehabilitation centres. Care of these infants is costly and requires 24hr staff, veterinary, and nurse care to ensure they are in a healthy condition and have the best chance to survive – and possibly even return to the wild.

All adoption money goes directly to helping the orphans at the various care centres they support:

So for the small sum of €8 you can make a real difference and help these orphans to survive.

5 Donate to associations Give a gift!

Buy a "Gorilla's Paradise" WWF gift and help support the Gamba Complex of protected areas in Gabon – home to western lowland gorillas where they can play, walk and rest along pristine sandy beaches.

In buying this gift right now and for only $100 you'll be helped to ensure that western lowland gorillas and all of the inhabitants of this paradise stay protected.

6 Visit the gorillas:

Money earned through gorilla tourism contributes significantly to the conservation of the species – providing funds for conservation projects, creating jobs and bringing other benefits to local communities living near gorillas.

How to stop global warming:

We don’t need to wait for governments to find a solution for this problem: each individual can bring an important help.

We have to adopt a more responsible lifestyle: starting with little and daily things.

To stop global warming and so the destruction of apes’ habitats we have to reduce the greenhouse gases emissions:

7 -Consume Less

It’s the easiest way to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions.

-8 Reduce waste

Most products we buy cause greenhouse gas emissions in one or another way, during production and distribution. For that you can for example use reusable boxes instead of a disposable one.

9 -Buy locally grown:

The average meal in the United States travels 1,200 miles from the farm to your plate. Buying locally will save fuel and so reduce the greenhouse gas emissions.

-10 Displacement

We also must change our way to move because transportation is the second source of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.

One way to dramatically curtail transportation fuel needs is to move closer to work, use mass transit, or switch to walking, cycling or some other mode of transport. You can also try car sharing.

Managing forests and agriculture:

Taken together, tropical deforestation and emissions from agriculture represent nearly 30 percent of the world's heat-trapping emissions. We can fight global warming by reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and by making our food production practices more sustainable.

As a conclusion everyone can bring help and protect the apes. Now if you want to make known our cause sign our petition and spread the word!

More and more brands and people try to improve the life of the apes. Inform yourself you might find brands committed to the protection of apes.

For instance the brand Maison du Monde proposes since March 2017 “L’Arrondi”. The principle is simple, when you check in at one of their stores, you will have the opportunity to round up a few cents your purchases. 100% of these "micro-donations" will then be donated to associations. Until May, it is the NGO Awely and its project to preserve the habitat of the gorillas from the Dja Reserve in Cameroon, which will receive your donations.

Some people fought all their life in order to protect apes. We can mention the American ethnologist Dian Fossey who spent her life to study gorillas and stop poaching. Unfortunately she was murdered 30 years ago in Rwanda by poachers. Nonetheless her tenacity has provoked vocations, such as with Sabrina Krief, who now protects chimpanzees on the Ugandan side.

So help us to protect the apes thanks to all the solutions we gave you!

1. Deforestation

We know that the main cause of the disappearance of apes is the deforestation because it destroys their habitats. One of the goal of deforestation is produce palm oil. So we have as consumers to help to reduce our contribution to deforestation through making some simple lifestyle changes. We have to stop buying products containing palm oil.

To change your habits you can be helped by the 28-Day Palm Oil Challenge.

The 28-Day Palm Oil Challenge is a program designed to help you to live a more holistically sustainable lifestyle for instance it gives you advices, the list of the brands which use palm oil but also recipes without palm oil like the recipe of chocolate spread.

In France some brands begin to try to stop using palm oil in their products as:

Jacquet and the Palm Oil

Jacquet has announced that the majority of its products (99%) is already without palm oil and that the brand try to suppress it from its other products.

Mc Cain fries and Palm Oil

  • Mc Cain has decided to suppress palm oil from its fries in 2011. Now Mc Cain use sunflower oil. Furthermore the use of this new type of oil could decrease by 60% the fatty acids.

Casino and Palm Oil
